Online Safety

Longsands recognises the essential and important contribution that technology plays in promoting children’s learning and development, and believe it offers a fantastic range of positive activities and experiences. We do recognise however that this can bring risks.  We take your child’s online safety seriously and, as such, will take all reasonable precautions, including monitoring and filtering systems, to ensure that pupils are safe when they use our internet and systems.

In a rapidly developing, digital world, it is crucial that our pupils are taught how to protect themselves, their information and relationships online as they would in the 'real' world and that they know how to respond to online dangers.

We understand that technology is ever changing and our pupils must be prepared for the digital environment of the future. Our online safety curriculum, along with our PSHE and RSE curriculum ensures that pupils are ready to access this world safely.

At Longsands, Online Safety is an integral part of our safeguarding culture and is embedded in all areas of the curriculum. We make use of Project Evolve to identify pupils' prior knowledge of a range of online safety strands. Learning is then tailored to the needs of pupils in order to improve their understanding of safety in a connected world.

Pupils are encouraged to report any incidences of online bullying, worrying or inappropriate content in line with our safeguarding and anti-bullying policy motto 'Tell, Tell, Tell'.

Pupils are asked to agree to an acceptable use agreement for the technology they access in school and for the safe and appropriate use of the internet. As parents and carers, we ask that you take time to read these agreements and discuss their content with your child.

If you have any concerns or wish to discuss any aspect of our online safety curriculum, please speak to Mrs Lang.
