Our Curriculum Intent

Our Curriculum prepares pupils for life in an ever-changing world and reflects the diversity of our local and global community. We value the rich opportunities that a diverse school community provides. At Longsands, we seek to celebrate what makes us equally different.

We ensure a broad and balanced curriculum that gives every child an opportuntity to succeed.

Our curriculum aims to give pupils;

  • a love of learning that will continue to motivate and inspire them beyond the doors of Longsands
  • the skills and knowledge required to be successful in the next stage of their academic journey
  • opportunities to explore and develop skills and talents beyond the academic
  • a global perspective, understanding their contribution as global citizens
  • the social, emotional and communication skills to succeed
  • personal goals and aspirations

We follow the National Curriculum, teaching subject disciplines discretely whilst providing opportuntities for pupils to apply their skills through cross-curricular topics. Subjects are planned through a spiral curriculum ensuring that pupils revist key skills, concepts and themes, drawing on prior learning and building on this to establish secure connections between existing and new knowledge.

Our wider curriculum offer includes trips and visitors that support our pupils' learning and provide meaningful experiences, supported by our half-termly themed Wonder Days, along with access to music tuition, dance, STEM clubs and sporting opportunities. We are also lucky to have extensive school grounds that support our Forest School curriculum.

You can find out more about our curriculum by speaking to the headteacher or by visiting our individual subject pages here
