Mrs McKeown's Update Tuesday 12th May - Phased Reopening Plans12 May 2020 (by Martin Coyne (m.coyne)) |
Following the Prime Ministers address on Sunday night, there has been a good deal of consideration on how to phase our reopening at Longsands. I have consulted Governors and the Management Team and here are our plans.
We intend to be very cautious on phasing our children into school. Our priority is safety for all. Using the Government guidelines this is how Longsands can accommodate the recommendations safely.
Reception , Year 1 and Year 6 will be the first ones into school on June 1st . Two days have been set aside for the groups. The remaining three days will no doubt be needed for the years groups not yet phased in. This is as long as the virus does not spike again.
If you are in those year groups, your teachers will be contacting you with a time slot for your child to attend. As we are wanting to be cautious on how we reintroduce the children , the group sizes will be 15 in Year 6, 10 in Reception and 10 in Year 1 per time session. These groups will then be split between classrooms we have available . For example Year 1 will have 5 in Year 1 classroom and 5 in year 2 classroom . Each with a member of staff. As you can appreciate it is very difficult for younger children to socially distance hence the groups to be only 10 and the need to use two classrooms rather than just one. These children will not be staying at school for their lunch as classrooms will need cleaning between sessions, there will not be room in the hall for the extra children to dine safely at this time. Again your teachers will explain the times in their emails to you if you haven't already received it.
The key worker children who have been coming into school over the last few weeks will still have their place in school which adds to the numbers and puts the hall out of use for any extra at lunchtime.
From a parents point of view, I know this could be tricky for you to organise. However, I hope you understand the reasoning behind the groupings and time slots. I will explain at a later date my plans for for dropping off and picking up for example how to come into school, how to wait for your child at the end of their session. I also understand if you do not wish to take up the offer of the session at this time, as you would like to keep your child at home until this whole things has come to some sort of end.
This is just an outline of how we want to start to move forward at Longsands. I know it will not suit every parent but for the safety of all involved it is the only way at the moment we can accommodate the phased return the Government advocates.
As always if you have any questions please contact me and I will endeavour to answer them. I am in school from 7.30 until 3.30 if you would like to phone or discuss through an open window!!
Thank you
Mrs McKeown
